Educational Materials and Activities
Throughout the 10-week period, participants should receive information that helps motivate them to eat healthy foods or to be physically active.
Informational materials
These materials should include information about the benefits of fruits and vegetables and physical activity and ways to increase or maintain fruit and vegetable consumption or levels of activity. These materials can be distributed through Team Captains or through other communication methods. These materials are included in the "Participant Materials" section.
Workshops
Workshops throughout the 10-week period are especially helpful to people who are not regularly consuming fruits and vegetables or not regularly active and who need more information about nutrition, cooking/recipes, health, safety, and different types of physical activities. These workshops can include lectures, health screenings, cooking demonstrations, and demonstrations of various physical activities such as line dancing or yoga. Use your company's health plan representative or local organizations as resources for conducting workshops. More information about planning workshops is included in the "Activities" section.
Activities
Group activities throughout the 10 weeks encourage people to eat healthy and be physically active while socializing. These activities can include games and group walks. They are a fun way to motivate your participants. Consider also providing fruits and vegetables at meetings and incorporating physical activity breaks into longer meetings.
